Read an article in the NYT this AM.  If you have read it, I wonder if you can comment.

http://www.nytimes.c...

Corruption investigations -
A lot has been written about Christie.  What about Milgram?  I'll give her a pass for the moment, since she's been there, what 2 months?

What legislation gives Christie the right to investigate NJ corruption?
What powers does Milgram have with the same issues?

I have more questions, but this is enough for now.

It doesn't matter if you address these questions today; just some taling points.

And Jay - how did you give up smoking?  I'm on my 13th mililon time.

Hey Smarty (0.00 / 0)
Thanks for the questions - I think we got to them all in the show!

:)

Sorry I posted my comment late.

The NYT article I mentioned questioned the "pace" of some of Corzine's campaign promises and current proposals floating around the state.

Reporter Chen goes into 3 areas in particular - affordable housing, education and the environment.  He gets some juicy quotes, but it may be just that.

I've never been enamored with Chen's reporting, but I wondered if he got it right this time or if he was just blowing smoke.

Seems like a nice gossipy thing to discuss.

As for Christie/Milgram - I know Christie has RICO, mail fraud and other statutes on his side.  I just wondered if Milgram had enough Jersey law behind her to go after some of the same perps.  As I said, I'll give her a pass for the moment.  She's been there a short while and has a lot on her plate - starting with voting machines (wait until we get to "real ID).

I'm an attorney, but not familiar with NJ criminal law.  So much of what Christie is going after seems so local, I wondered if an AG (not just Milgram) has the juristiction to go after this stuff.  I don't see why not - unless the office is underfunded.  (the Feds did this in CA).

Any legal eagles out there?

And yeah, Smarty is a "she," even though Smarty Jones is a "he."  In pre- Kerry run-up, I was rooting for Smarty to win the Triple Crown.  Oh well, like Kerry, he didn't.  Unlike me, Smarty is munching bluegrass and making lots of money as a stud.  I'm broke and unemployed.

Unlike others who have posted here, I have thought that having a neutral "handle" was a better way to go. (See, Digby).  Although it has never happened on BJ, on other blogs women have been threatened about their positions on computers, politcs and sex.

So, if I ever change my handle, it might be Lawyer Ron or Rags to Riches, the filly who beat all the guys a Belmont last year.

BTW, I don't gamble - hate to lose.

for smarty.... (4.00 / 1)
.....the name of the anti-cigarette medicine i cited in the show was Chantix.  aparently it's working so well to curb smoking that it's now being considered for clinical trials for drugs like heroine or cocaine.

good luck girlfriend!  i hope it sticks for you like it did for me.  nowadays that i am ~3months free and have an extra $5 or $10 in my pocket all the time.  So.... when i get the urge for something like a frappuccino (almost as big a waste of money as a box of smokes) or better yet a donation to a cool candidate, i can just indulge.  health consequences notwithstanding, that's been the best part of it all.
