What Will Junior Do?

So Tom Kean Jr. has 3 days until Tuesday to make a decision and Bergen County Republican Chair Guy Talarico says the clock is ticking...

According to PoliticsNJ, Bergen County GOP Chairman Guy Talarico has given U.S. Senate candidate Tom Kean Jr three days to decide whether he will run on the organization line. READ the letter

This is made more interesting by the fact that it's set against the backdrop of the infighting withing the Bergen County Republican Organization

Junior has to choose. Will he run on the line of Party chairman Talarico and Todd Calguire? Or will he run on the line with Alan Marcus who is callenging Talarico for chair along with Kathleen Donovan? Donovan and Calaguire are both vying in the primary to unseat Democratic County Executive Dennis McNerney in November.

I'm gonna sit back, make some popcorn and enjoy the show.  Won't you join?

Talarico has lost his mind (0.00 / 0)
Call me crazy, but wouldn't you want to have the only candidate for your party's statewide nomination at the top of the ticket? (Yes)

Then why make an ultimatum like this that will potentially alienate that candidate and get him to back the opposing ticket? (Because I'm the Bergen County Republican Chair and I can throw a temper tantrum if I want to.)

Who knows WWJD, but if he decides that Talarico can go frack himself, then the BCRO just shot itself in its foot.

I think PoliticsNJ made a good point... (0.00 / 0)
Talarico's saying that he wouldn't be comfortable with a vacancy on the official line, and that he'll appoint a new candidate against Kean.  Kean's gotten a free ride from the conservative establishment up until this point; the BCRO is making this a loyalty test to the conservative movement, which is backing the official BCRO line.  The last thing Kean needs is any primary challenge or for the conservatives to sit on their hands in his challenge.

Of course, if any Republicans in Bergen are expecting a 20K plurality for Kean in the county, they are seriously deluded.
