Kean Jr May Get A Primary Challenger

by: Juan Melli

Fri Mar 31, 2006 at 12:05:54 AM EST

Junior can't get a break. From politicsnj:
Former Ridgewood Republican Club President John Ginty says that he has assembled a team of more than two dozen volunteers to get "more than the required 1,000 signatures" on his nominating petitions to run for the U.S. Senate. He says if he gets enough signatures, he will challenge State Sen. Tom Kean in the GOP primary.  "New Jersey would benefit from a Senate primary campaign in which solid, effective conservative solutions and principles are promoted by at least one candidate," Ginty told PoliticsNJ.com.

This should be excellent. Cuz I wonder what the base wants here. Do you think that the base will want Kean Jr? Or one of their very own wingnuttious love pie?

Oh this should be grand!

Media In Trouble

It will be grand, but not for the reasons Media in Trouble thinks it will (0.00 / 0)
Ginty won't win the primary. Kean has all the endorsements and the state Republican bosses on his side.

That being said, Ginty's run will force Kean to tack to the right during the primary, which will give Menendez's campaign plenty of ammunition for the general, when Kean will have to tack back to the left to even have a hope of winning in this liberal state. It's what Forrester did to undercut Schundler, Lonegan, et al in the gubernatorial race last year, and it's what we on the Corzine campaign did to him after the primary.

And Junior will have to spend $$ (0.00 / 0)

He won't lack for funds, but that's an added bonus (n/t) (0.00 / 0)
