The Micco-mouse-that-roared claims:
Steve Rothman is putting liberal Democrat politics above the lives of our service men. He should be ashamed of himself.
The words of Jesus say, "Greater love has no man for his friends than this: To lay down his life that they might live." This is exactly what Mr. Rothman has done. He has thrown down the gauntlet and offered his political life for the safety of the men and women who wear the uniform of military service.
Here's a quick Constitutional lesson for the Roaring Mouse. The Constitution vests power in the President to pursue war. It vests power in the House of Representatives to harness that power by controlling the power of the purse. Not only is your slanderous bile morally wrong, but it betrays a total lack of understanding of the legal obligations of the post to which you aspire.
Mr. Rothman has every right to be proud of his vote and the values behind it.
"Our troops in Iraq continue to serve with courage and bravery and I remain proud of them. Their successful mission to eliminate the terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was a great victory. However, al-Zarqawi's death does not change the fact that the President's failed policy in Iraq has cost too many American lives, tarnished America's image abroad, nearly exhausted our military, and taken our attention away from the Global War on Terrorism.
"Today, I again sent a clear message to President Bush that he cannot count on me to continue paying for his stay-the-course policy in Iraq. We must re-deploy all our troops out of Iraq, returning most of them home and leaving a quick-reaction force in the region. It is time to change course and bring our troops home within six months.
"U.S. involvement in Iraq has now claimed 2,497 lives and cost nearly $350 billion dollars. Our people would willingly bear the human and economic cost of the war in Iraq if it would actually save American lives in the long-run. It will not. Given the President's lost credibility and ever-changing excuses for taking our country to war, we can no longer justify the egregious loss of American life and hundreds of billions of U.S. taxpayer dollars spent in Iraq.
Shame on YOU, Mr. Micco. You are shamefully distorting the truth. But it isn't enough to lie about Iraq, you have to go and lie about his efforts on homeland security, too. Mr. Rothman's website states clearly:
Congressman Steve Rothman (D-NJ) voted yesterday morning to eliminate a small portion of the tax cut for individuals making over $1 million and use those funds to beef up border and port security. The vote took place during a House Appropriations Committee meeting on a spending bill for homeland security. Unfortunately, the Republican Majority on the Appropriations Committee rejected the idea of asking the super-rich to sacrifice part of their tax cut, and instead passed a bill that leaves security agencies without the resources they need to protect Americans.
"Everyone knows that you cannot hire new border control agents without money to pay their salaries. Yet, the Republican Majority on the Appropriations Committee refuses to adequately fund something as critical to our country's security as the hiring of 1,800 additional border patrol agents," said Rothman. "Instead, Republicans would rather give an average of $42,000 to every individual with an income in excess of $1 million.
This effort of Mr. Rothman to provide actual funds for guarding our borders was turned back by every single Republican member of the committee voting against it.
Instead, Mr. Micco lies through his teeth when he states:
The bill also includes $1.9 billion in border security funds, including money to pay the National Guard to patrol the nation̢۪s porous border with Mexico.
The spelling errors are there because Micco's staff isn't smart enough to either write an html document in Notepad or to bother to proofread the drivel they are putting out.
Micco breaks out the Willie Horton era hysteria machine with:
“By refusing to support border security, Steve Rothman is making it possible for child molesters, rapists and other criminals to flood in to our country and prey on our citizens, said Micco.
In May an illegal alien from Ecuador was arrested in Hackensack and charged with raping a 6-year-old girl with Down syndrome Manuel Contreras-Sanango, a 19-year-old busboy, was charged with aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a minor.
“Are these the kind of people that Steve Rothman wants to allow in our country? Are these the kinds of miscreants he wants to become citizens and reap the rewards that U.S. citizenship brings, said Micco.
That's worth of a hunk of spit in the face. Mr. Rothman hasn't released a single statement either for or against Operation: Return to Sender. How does that translate into being against it? Usually silence is interpreted as being FOR something.
But wait - how did the problem get this bad? Who was in charge of enforcing our borders for the last six years? Oh yeah, that's the Republican majority that Micco is trying so hard to mimic.
But then, Micco can't even help lying about his own military career:
who spent a year as counterintelligence agent in Iraq as part of his nine year service in the U.S. Army.
Micco did go to Iraq for a year - but it was because he was in the Army Reserve:
When his U.S. Army reserve unit was called up for active military service in 2003, Micco left his wife and children, his job, and his post as Bergen County Young Republican Chairman to serve in Iraq. But when Micco returned to civilian life after a year of service in a combat zone, he found himself in a far less significant war: for the Bergen YR chairmanship. It seems that some of the Young Republicans who assumed control during Micco's absence aren't eager to allow him to return to his post. The controversy centered around Walter "Jim" Dering, the 38-year-old Executive Director of the Bergen YR's, who said that Micco can't simply assume control of the organization because he returned home after the "constitutionally-mandated" YR election.
I served six years in the US Navy. I got up every day and put on a uniform and did my job. I also served for a time in the Reserves - I put on a uniform two days a month and reported to the drilling station. Serving in the Reserve is not to be slighted - but neither is it to be equated with regular service. It is especially disingenuous to blur the distinction for the two for political reasons. Talk all you want about your time in Iraq and I'll honor you for answering the call to which you are obligated. Continue lying about what your role was for nine years and I'll have nothing but contempt for you. |
