For all the empty rhetoric from the state Republicans about our state economy and tax system hurting New Jersey families, when it comes down to it, their counterparts in the Congress don't seem to be listening. They have consistently voted against the best interests of the middle class.
While many organizations issue scorecards based on a single issue, the Drum Major Institute for Public Policy is distinctive in its focus on an overall agenda of expanding opportunity for middle-class and aspiring middle-class Americans.
All New Jersey Republicans in the House received a failing score except one - Chris Smith, who scored a lousy 50%. The lowest scoring Democrat from New Jersey was Steve Rothman, who scored a C due to, among other things, his support for (along with Andrews, Menendez and every Republican) the Bankruptcy bill, a giveaway to the credit card industry. He still scored higher than the highest-rated Republican. Their grades are below, and you can find all the details here.
