Tom Kean Jr Campaign Astroturfing Blogs?

by: Juan Melli

Tue Sep 19, 2006 at 10:51:09 PM EDT

We've had a rash of trolls around here lately, no doubt because Republicans are panicking that their campaigns are being exposed for being built upon a foundation of lies.

Almost without exception, these trolls have pretended to be Democrats, confused Democrats, wavering Democrats or former Democrats who just aren't so sure Menendez is up to par. They're actually all Republicans. Yesterday we pointed out that one user, who "wonder[ed] about the direction of our party" is the president of the NJ College Republicans.

Today, a pair of users (cleanupnj & usedtobeblue) whose accounts were created within 10 minutes of each other posted nonsensical comments just 15 minutes apart from the same IP address, meaning - it's the same person.

It looks likely this person was posting from Tom Kean Jr's headquarters. The IP address (70.90.20.85) is from a Comcast business account, and can be traced all the way to ge-5-1-ur01.union.nj.panjde.comcast.net - a GigabitEthernet interface 5/1 Comcast node in Union - before hitting a firewall. Tom Kean Jr's headquarters in Mountainside is 5 miles from Union. Even more interesting is that this same IP address has a history of making partisan changes to Bob Menendez's wikipedia entry in July.

New Jersey Republicans see their smear campaign collapsing before their eyes, and they're wetting their pants. So they've resorted to astroturfing blogs to try to stop the hemorrhaging. And they're doing a really sloppy job of it. Pathetic.

Update: AmadeusNJ, who calls himself a "lifelong liberal", is at least the third user who posts from the same IP address as the other two.

You are a public website. Welcome to the internet.
If you want a private club, build a treehouse and put a "No republicans allowed" sign out front.

You're obviously confused. In fact, this is a privately owned forum with community rules. We've always said that we welcome all who want to engage in an honest debate. Lying about your identity fails to meet that simple rule.

Be proud Republicans! (0.00 / 0)
I know that for many, that might seem to be an oxymoron.  But all Juan is saying is that if you are a redstater, a wingbat, or a 20-year-old fratboy who idolizes the preznit and want to post on BlueJersey, then don't try to hide your identity.  Be proud of who you are!  Don't hide in the conservative closet!  And bring your "A" game here, because the same BS lines that Tom Wilson and Jill Hazelbaker have been pushing are going to be ripped to pieces with much glee and gusto - and all you'll be is just another "Troll on a Blog."

yet no one in the White House can explain Gannon's 40 overnight stays.

Eh, What's Up Doc? (0.00 / 0)
It seems you are defending the use of dishonesty and subterfuge in service to Tom Keane Jr.  Surely he would not approve of such tactics, eh?

Feel free to be up front about why you believe he would be a great candidate.  Surely you're not ashamed of being a Republicand Bush/Keane supporter???

Just be honest about who you are and what you believe; is that so much to ask?

That's called free and open debate.

Think you can handle that?

Or is deceptive petty sniping from the gutter of anonymity the best you can do?

open your mind. (0.00 / 0)
I am not defending the use of dishonesty. I am simply saying that an internet forum/discussion is something where all who participate must take things said with a grain of salt.

Just because somebody has a different viewpoint than yours, doesn't make them a minion of Tom Kean, anymore than it makes you a minion of Robert Menendez.

Instead of trying to group, label, and crack the identity of people with different viewpoints; why not allow the opportunity for healthy debate and discussion, instead of insult and suspicion.

I believe my previous handle was blocked, so I created this one in the hopes that you people would see I'm just trying to have discussion here, not flaming an internet blog.

"You People"??? How telling, eh? (0.00 / 0)
You madam, or sir, are not for real.

You are playing games.  You are transparant.  Not nearly as clever as you imgine.

Come out and use your real name as I do.  And show me that you have any legitimate history at all in the progressive movement.  I don't think you can.

There's nothing wrong to admitting that you are a Republican; don't be ashamed of it.

If you want to criticize Menendez and praise Junior, write a substantive diary and we'll all have at it.

Just don't lie about who you really are and what you really stand for.

On the other hand, as a Menendez supporter, I guess I should hope that you keep on making pathetic fools of yourselves, eh?

Man, the Kean campaign just can't catch a break from Blue Jersey these days...

Of course they're astroturfing! (3.00 / 1)
They're Republicans! For more on this fetish of theirs, Google "The Rendon Group".

It's like their Vatican of Astroturfing.

How sad of them. How pathetic. How predictable. How utterly moronic. A tactic that deserves all the laughing, pointing and calling out they might endure.

Oh, and trollikins? Did your fearless leader, you know, the one with the eclectic fashion sense...Did his parents actually let him put real pipe tobacco in that pipe that he got to complete that look, or are they still making him use bubble liquid?

The nom de plume has a long and distinguished history.

College Republicans (0.00 / 0)
When do they have the time to be little messenger boys/girls for Junior?  Maybe because I'm just a member of the bourgeoisie, but when I was in college I was either studying, working or very occasionally having a good time.

How dull they must be.

Trolling is all they have left (0.00 / 0)
QUOTE-Instead of trying to group, label, and crack the identity of people with different viewpoints; why not allow the opportunity for healthy debate and discussion, instead of insult and suspicion.-

If a killer wears a clown suit to distract the clowns, hes still a killer.

Like it or not.... humans - even in new jersey - use  viewpoints as a way to Label,Group and identify each other.

Now who is it with a hood over there head?
