Jersey Journal Article on Menendez and Scarinci

The Jersey Journal, the same publication that Xpatriated Texan rightly noted on Blue Jersey had pretty much exonerated Bob Menendez from any ethical wrondoing in the North Hudson Community Action rental deal in a 1996 article, has a new article out today that is another must-read.

According to the Jersey Journal, they already published an article 6 months ago about the Scarinci recordings from Sandoval, and they ask the pointed question, "Does anyone really believe the Kean campaign was not involved?"

Martin :: Jersey Journal Article on Menendez and Scarinci
In case you missed Thursday's release of the tape's contents:
"In the "newest" revelations, Scarinci is heard on tape using Menendez's name in trying to get Sandoval to hire Dr. Vicente Ruiz - "Menendez will consider that a favor," Scarinci says, unaware that he is being secretly recorded by Sandoval - if the psychiatrist wants to keep his million-dollar contracts with the county. This taping occurred seven years ago."
The author follows up by reiterating that these ethical charges are perhaps smoke-and-mirrors from a campaign short on substance but strong on mudslinging and false accusations (Remember the Musto tapes?)
"The way the GOP campaign has been tossing the sludge one can guess and come close on what is next on the hit parade. It is all about personal relationships and attempts to paint Menendez as ethically challenged - after all he's from Hudson County."
In this complicated case, Sandoval, who is accusing Menendez of wrongdoing, is being brought to court by Hudson County for raking in millions from contracts, and this case, according to the article, has already been brought before federal prosecutors.  Hence, the question is, since the recordings themselves are already known to prosecutors, and if Menendez has any culpability, the author asks, "why haven't prosecutors gone after them [Menendez and Scarinci]?" Perhaps the answer is that Menendez, who in over 30 years of public office has not been indicted nor even charged with ethical wrongdoing, is innocent of these charges, and Scarinci was merely invoking his name to curry favor.

Menendez Ethics Meme (4.00 / 1)
I don't understand why Menendez isn't getting out in front of this "ethics" meme.  It's obviously a Rovian tactic to support a candidate with nothing to offer but mud to sling.  Unfortunately, this message has a very accepting audience because NJersians are so goddam sick and tired of corruption.  When it comes to "ethics" we are always ready to think the worst.  I know for myself, on Thurs. I put a Menendez bumper sticker on my car, and when I heard on NPR yesterday, quite inaccurately as it turns out, that the NJ election was taking a new twist with more ethics accusations, I was ready to take it off.  If I hadn't researched the issue further myself, I might have done so.  I'm sure 90% of the people who heard the story, even Democrats, said "that's it".

Menendez needs to inform the people of New Jersey that this is a Karl Rove tactic and that he's counting on the people of NJ to be ignorant of the facts.  Menedez should say that he knows the people of NJ better than that.

It is a classic Rovian strategy.  He took Menendez testimony AGAINST corrupt politicians (possibly Menedez greatest strenth) and made him corrupt by association.  The people of NJ are smart enough to understand the difference.  But not if no one gets the information out to them.  All they see now is a "corruption haze."  This race can be one, but not if the propaganda wars aren't fought the right way.

Yup (0.00 / 0)
Which is why Menendez needs to attack and attack and attack his attackers...it is THEY who hve dirt on their hands!

When Menendez fights with no fear of anything; he wins big!!!

Ask John Kerry about the results of equivication in the face of the swift boats!
