| As you know, yesterday Republican Mark Foley resigned from Congress after ABC reported on his e-mails and instant messages to a 16-year old boy who was then a page. But although this came out yesterday, the problems were already known. First, what the pages (yes, pages) say:
One former page tells ABC News that his class was warned about Foley by people involved in the program.
Other pages told ABC News they were hesitant to report Foley because of his power in Congress.
Who else knew? Well, the list now includes John Boehner (Majority Leader), Thomas Reynolds (head of the RNCC), and Speaker Dennis Hastert. The New York Times:
“Despite the fact that I had not seen the e-mails in question, and Mr. Alexander told me that the parents didn’t want the matter pursued, I told the speaker of the conversation Mr. Alexander had with me,” Mr. Reynolds said.
For years our "moderate" Republicans have enabled the extreme right-wing policies by their leadership votes. New Jersey Republicans Frank LoBiondo, Jim Saxton, Chris Smith, Scott Garrett, Mike Ferguson, and Rodney Frelinghuysen now face a simple question they must answer publicly: Will they vote for a Majority Leader and a Speaker who knowingly covered up for a pedophile? |
