Remember when 2.9% was a man-date?

by: Juan Melli

Wed Nov 09, 2005 at 12:46:30 AM EST

If Bush got a man-date, then today, New Jerseyans demanded a polygamous man wedding.

Not only did Jon Corzine trounce Forrester by 9 points, but the Democrats also managed to gain a net 2 seats in the State Assembly, bringing their advantage to 49-31. Democrats won mayoral races in Edison, Atlantic City, Dumont, Brick, Parsippany and Morristown, ousting several GOP incumbents. Despite all the baggage that some state Democrats carry, the citizens of New Jersey (briefly) considered the alternative - an ethically bankrupt party of hate and smearmongering - and forcefully rejected it.

At his acceptance speech, Jon Corzine committed to fulfilling his promise to clean up corruption in New Jersey. The voters have provided him with the political capital to bring about this much needed reform, and he shouldn't hesistate to spend it.

Political Capital... (0.00 / 0)
What's the over/under on the pay to play ban? I'd be pleasantly surprised if it gets done before 2007. I'm hoping Jon can overcome the same mysterious forces that kept McGreevey and Codey from getting it done.

Edison pay to play ban (0.00 / 0)
Edison, I understand, passed a local referendum pay to play ban that was initiated by Jun Choi yesterday.  I think the momentum is there for Governor Corzine and the state to move forward on that more quickly than you might think.  It requires that we, as citizens, keep up the pressure on our individual legislators so that the election issues aren't forgotten now that the election is over for governor and all state assemblymembers.

A New Dawn (0.00 / 0)
I think a new dawn is upon NJ.  Or at least I hope.

He won by large margins, with help no doubt from local Dem machines.  However, most Dem assembly folks rode in on coat tails.  In my (32nd) district, Joan Qugiley and Vincent Prieto didn't even have to set up a website to keep their seats.

If Corzine can kick ass in the Senate he needs to come here and kick ass as well.

I have faith.
