2008 Starts Now!

by: Tom Wyka

Wed Nov 08, 2006 at 12:07:13 PM EST

(Tom ran a great campaign and this is his way of kicking off his next campaign. Bluejersey is proud to have him announce his '08 campaign here. - promoted by DBK)

Just so there's no questions (as people seem to be asking)...

2008 started last night.  Stop by my site for an important message and consider getting on the mailing list (click volunteer link) and fill it out with the basics for a newsletter. Thanks to everyone on netroots for your support!

Tom Wyka
Democratic Candidate NJ-11

"Sometimes, the only realists are the dreamers. Robert Kennedy once said, 'The future will not belong to those who are content with the present.' I think the future also will not belong to those who are cynical or those who stand on the sidelines. The future will belong to those who have passion and are willing to work hard to make our country better. The future will belong to those, in Eleanor Roosevelt's words, 'who believe in the beauty of their dreams.'"

~ Sen. Paul Wellstone, The Conscience of a Liberal

Rodney's vision of America is a bit to the side of MAD MAX @ Thunderdome (4.00 / 1)

No, sorry... (4.00 / 4)
...2007 starts now.  Little thing called the state legislature races.

Durn tootin' (4.00 / 3)
And we have some real cleaning up to do. Out here in the broccoli, we got us Mike "Slit Trench" Doherty that we gotta divest ourselves of. No small thing. But it's gotta get done.

Tom is running for Congress, not state legislature. (0.00 / 0)

Congress, not the legislature... (0.00 / 0)
Yes, I know, I was just pointing out that right now, our priority should be protecting our incumbent Assembly members and looking for opportunities to pick up more seats, if possible.

I may have put it too abruptly, and I certainly had no intention of snubbing Tom's efforts.  He deserves all our thanks for running a creditable campaign in a tough district with very little money, and I wish him all the luck in the world for 2008.  Right now, though, I'm looking at the 2007 races.

Tom, these are the words of someone with some modest experience: (4.00 / 4)
If you want to do it again, do it again. Spend this time putting together an organization of people you believe in and who believe in your candidacy. Chose people with drive and a clue, in important positions. They can then become your teachers for the others. Start now, documenting the "atrocities". Get your every issue point set and documented and become facile in stating them with simplicity and a good frame. Create an online presence that allows the formation of a real community around your candidacy. Read "The Cluetrain Manifesto" and "Guerilla Marketing" by Christopher Locke, two pieces that could well become the real future for successful Democratic campaigns.

And don't, as god is my witness, don't let party hacks push you out of the way.

Things I have learned.

And my deepest respect for what you have done on the most unreal of shoestrings. Amazing.

The nom de plume has a long and distinguished history.

Tom's Campaign (0.00 / 0)
I thought Tom's Campaign was very well done from a grassroots organzing perspective.  37% of the vote against Rodney is unheard of.  The biggest hurdle remains money.  $20,000 was only enough for mail in 7 of 56 towns.  We need about $100,000 or more next time so we can mail to all our towns.  We need to start Wyka for Congress 2008 fundraising as soon as possible so we can mail to all 56 towns next time

100k ? I don't think so. try 1 million plus. (0.00 / 0)
We need to raise 100k by next spring.
